Q: Hello. How are you doing today?
Good, thank you.
Q: What's your name, who are you and what do you do?
Kathy's mug
My name is Kathy, also known as rainylake here on deviantart. You will see me running around the community posting photos, features, interviews, administrating groups and other miscellaneous things. As an artist, I am an animal photographer, focusing mainly on birds.
Q: What is your main art form? Do you do any others?
My main art form is animal photography, although I do dabble in other mediums. At the moment, I'm trying to learn how to crochet, and attempt to draw a thing or two.
Q: Could you walk me through the process of photographing animals? Is it hard?
It does take some time, a lot of patience and sometimes luck. Since birds can be such flighty creatures, often times it requires hunkering down and waiting until they get used to your presence before they continue their daily routine. When I photograph animals at aviaries and zoos I've noticed that staying at one exhibit for a longer period of time often turns out with wonderful results! Patience is key.
Q: What kind of equipment do you use?
At the moment, I don't have any real equipment due to needing to sell it all to cover medical bills. My gallery, however, was mostly taken with a Canon ti1 Rebel, Canon 7D, and various point and shoot cameras, along with the kit lenses those cameras came with (55-250mm, 18-55mm, and 18-135mm).
Q: How long have you been on DA? And how did you decide to join?
I've been on dA for quite a few years. My first account was made back in 2007 or 08 (can't quite remember ) .[Editor note: first account was made in 2006] The initial account was created for me by my sister, and shortly after I was addicted to it Some time passed and I deactivated my account due to a variety of situations, mostly life being too crazy for me to get on the computer . About a year or 2 after that, I started missing my deviantart home and all the wonderful things this site holds, and create this account that you are familiar with today.
Q: We can all see that shiny medal next to you name. Were you excited when you got it? Who told you the news?
you can? Oh yes, I was super surprised and excited when I got it, it was totally unexpected! I remember the day clearly. I was waking up, still in bed, and on my phone checking messages. I went on facebook and noticed a message from the wonderful Anoya, congratulating me for getting seniority. I though she was joking It wasn't until i stared at it for a good 10 minutes until it got through to my head.
Q: What about the projects you do on DA? Tell me about them
Well, I run a lot of features. They are always so fun to do Currently the features that are running on my profile are Animal ABC's, Hidden Talents, Around the World, and (insert random dog breed here) Love Animal ABC's is a series where we go through the alphabet, featuring one animal at a time with a certain letter (aka A is for Alpaca, etc). Hidden Talents is a series that features undiscovered or unappreciated artists. Around the World is a series that picks specific areas to feature photos of their landscapes and local wildlife. We are touring all seven continents, so it's quite a journal (Insert random dog breed here) Love is a new one, where I pick a random dog breed and feature photos of that breed.
Q: You are a part of many groups. Maybe you want to tell me about a few of them?
Ah yes, I forgot all about the groups in that previous question . I help out in a few different groups, such as DAWelcomeWagon, CRCommunityProjects, ProjectPorkchop, GetDailyDeviations, ArtisticAnimals and a few more. The aim of these groups is to help out the community, whether it be by featuring them, welcoming them, or promoting their works in other ways.
Q: Do you look up to any idols?
Oh yes there are quite a few people on deviantart that I look up to. Anoya, moonbeam13, SavageFrog, Stygma, TheGalleryOfEve, and so many more! Anoya has such a passion for the APN galleries, and her community spirit is just fantastic! moonbeam13 is such a strong role model, the work she does for the community is just inspiring SavageFrog is a menace, in the best way possible. Her attitude and caring nature is certainly something to look up to Stygma is such a powerhouse, I don't know how she's able to do all that she does, and with a smile to boot . And TheGalleryOfEve, she is such a wonderful person. I aspire to be the fluffball of energy and love that she is Outside of dA, I look up to Matt, my hubby. He is always so strong and centered. I wish I could be as calm as he is Well, actually, he is on deviantart too (Death-Soldier101), just not active anymore.
Q: That was a lot of typing. Time for some silly questions. What is your all time favorite movie?
Well, a more recent movie that I love is the How to Train your Dragon series. I'm just bonkers for Toothless
Q: What kind of music do you like to listen to?
I listen to a lot of everything, though the main genre I listen to is metal But I'm open to trying every sort of music Don't ask which is my favorite band, as I simply cannot choose
Q: If you were given the day off from all of your everyday responsibilities, how would you spend it?
I'd spend it outside, stalking birds to photograph!
Q: If you could visit anywhere where would you go?
I would visit Africa, just for the wildlife
Q: We spent more than an hour talking You're probably tired so we will wrap it up. Any last words?
Thank you so much for taking the time to interview me. Stay devious and create!
